A black and white photo taken today of the palace where Winston Churchill was born.

The Great Long Library

The palace was a gift by Queen Anne to John Churchill who was the first Duke of Marlborough for his victory at the Battle of Blenheim over the French in 1704. Winston Churchill was a direct descendent of the Dukes of Marlborough. This is not a royal palace but on royal land. Evidently, this palace is bigger than Buckingham Palace.

My understanding is the Duke’s wife, Sarah, was difficult to work with and fired her architect. It took over 17 years to build. I’ve heard “Sarah’s” can be difficult people but they sure have good taste! :)

Colleen and I feeling “at home.” :) NOT

Beautiful pheasants everywhere

This organ has a long history. During the First World War this room was used as a hospital and they played the organ for the troops. I can’t imagine the sound coming from this….was it uplifting, or perhaps jarring?

Just to show you I’m hard at work for the blog. :)
